Formulas for computing how close a geosynchronous orbit has to be to the planet’s surface. Read more about it in my blog post on worldbuilding at ArmdilloCon 2006. At this panel, writer James P. Hogan, the ArmadilloCon 2006 special guest, proposed an elipsoidal planet, where geosynchronous orbit would be so close to the planet’s surface that all you need to get there is to jump up.

ArmadilloCon is an annual speculative fiction convention in Austin, Texas, USA.
