E’s 5th and 6th months, September-October of 2005

Close to 5 months: E rolls over from back to front. She’s been doing that for a while, but I was able to film it only now. September 2005.

Having long hair is a hazard around babies, because they will always, unexpectedly, find ways to pull it. And not just with their hands!

When I crouch down to greet her after coming home, she reaches out and smiles not at me, but at all that yanka-licious hair. She screeches triumphantly as she grabs a strand and pulls my head down to the floor, showing me who’s the boss. The Rapunzel-in-training must have a secret cache where she stores the rest of the hair she has “harvested” from me, along with a half-finished rope she weaves that would let her escape us one day. At the rate she’s pulling my hair, the rope may soon be long enough to reach the ground from the third-floor balcony…

Carrots: love at the first bite.

Carrots: love at the first bite.
CIMG0945 5.5 months: E’s “solid” food repertoire that until now consisted only of sawdust… umm, baby cereal, has expanded to include carrots. October of 2005.

First teeth

CIMG0948 5.5 months: E is getting her first teeth. She might make a credible two-toothed witch for Halloween. October of 2005.
Leans against a couch
CIMG0950 Close to 6 months: she does not quite sit yet (not unsupported, anyway), just leaning against the couch. October of 2005.

At close to 6 months, E is starting to crawl. In the video below, she tries to grab the book, but instead pushes it away, so she lifts herself on her elbows and lunges for it. A small but legitimate crawl.
